A young primatologist struggles to connect with a chimp she encounters in the wild. Inspired by the amazing life of Jane Goodall, a multi-hyphenate primatologist and wildlife advocate. Her mid-20s life arc particularly interested me, when she bounded without fear into the forests of Gombe, Tanzania, leaving a muted life in England behind. In Gombe, she connected with chimpanzees in a way no one had before. I recommend checking out the “Jane” documentary by Brett Morgen & crew about this period of her life. Philip Glass’ score and Hugo Van Lawick’s & Ellen Kuras’ cinematography both inspired the feel of this short as well. The chimp hands practical effects were fun.
